Kingston Meat Market Is More Than Just a Butcher Shop |
Fresh meats, specialty groceries, produce and Caribbean and Latin ingredients make this Broadway market a useful stop for Kingston home cooks. |
Drive along Broadway in Midtown Kingston and it can be easy to pass businesses that deserve a closer look.
Kingston Meat Market at 595 Broadway is one of them.
Despite the name, this neighborhood market offers considerably more than a traditional butcher counter. Customers can find fresh meat, fish, produce and a broad selection of Hispanic, Latin and Caribbean grocery products, including ingredients that may be harder to find in a conventional supermarket.
The butcher counter is one of the main attractions.
Customer reviews frequently mention the freshness and presentation of the meats, along with selections such as chicken, pork, goat and other specialty cuts. Fresh fish and produce are also part of the store’s offerings.
But Kingston Meat Market’s appeal goes beyond meat.
Shoppers have highlighted its selection of Hispanic foods, Caribbean and Jamaican products, cheeses, tortillas, frozen foods, sweets and pantry staples. That combination makes the store especially useful for home cooks preparing traditional dishes that require ingredients not always stocked by larger chain supermarkets.
Another theme that comes up repeatedly in customer feedback is the atmosphere. Reviewers describe the market as clean, organized and welcoming, with friendly employees and helpful service at the meat counter. Current local-business data gives the store a strong 4.5-star rating.
There are even reports from customers of prepared foods and ready-to-eat options being available inside, including tacos and other items, although availability may vary from day to day.
In a city where Broadway continues to grow into one of Kingston’s most culturally diverse commercial corridors, Kingston Meat Market fills an important niche: part neighborhood grocery store, part butcher shop and part specialty international food market.
For residents who enjoy cooking—or simply want to discover something different for dinner—it is worth stopping in and taking a look around.

I've passed 595 Broadway plenty of times and assumed it was just a butcher shop. The Caribbean groceries sound worth checking out, especially if they have things the bigger stores don't carry. I'm curious about the ready-to-eat food, though. Has anyone actually seen tacos there recently? I wouldn't want to go at lunchtime expecting them if it's only an occasional thing.
I stop in at Kingston Meat Market when I need goat for a family recipe. The butcher counter is always worth a look, but I usually leave with tortillas and a few pantry things too. It is easy to drive right past the place on Broadway if you don't know what's inside. I'm glad it got some attention, because there's a lot more there than the name suggests.
Rosa M.I had no idea they carried goat. I usually go elsewhere for it, so I’ll check their counter next time I’m on Broadway.
