Everyday Essentials with Character at Rosie General |
Broadway's lifestyle store combines practical goods with thoughtful design |
At 39 Broadway in Kingston, Rosie General, a family-run general store and café on Broadway, has reimagined what a general store can be in the 21st century. This lifestyle shop combines everyday essentials with thoughtful design, creating a shopping experience that proves practical items don't have to be boring.
Curated for Daily Life
Rosie General carries a carefully selected range of products for daily living: kitchen tools, cleaning supplies, personal care items, stationery, and small home goods. But unlike big-box stores that offer endless choices of questionable quality, Rosie General focuses on items that are well-made, functional, and designed to last.
You'll find wooden brushes that feel good in your hand, cleaning products that actually work without harsh chemicals, kitchen tools designed by people who cook, and paper goods that make writing a letter feel special again. Every item on the shelves has been chosen with intention.
Supporting Independent Makers
The shop prioritizes products from independent makers and small businesses. Many items are made in the USA, and several come from Hudson Valley artisans. This commitment supports local economies and gives customers access to products they won't find in chain stores.
The inventory reflects the seasons and the needs of the community. You'll find garden tools in spring, quality outerwear in fall, and thoughtful gift options year-round. The staff knows the products and can offer recommendations based on your specific needs.
More Than Shopping
Rosie General has become part of Kingston's fabric by hosting events, workshops, and community gatherings. The shop understands that retail can be about more than transactions — it's about building community and sharing knowledge.
Visit the Store: Rosie General is located at 39 Broadway in Kingston. The shop is walkable from downtown and has street parking nearby. Beyond the shelves, it is also known for its house-baked breads, pastries, cured meats, pickles, and pies. They carry gift cards if you're looking for a thoughtful present, and the staff is happy to help with gift selection. Visit often — the inventory changes with the seasons and new arrivals appear regularly. |

I like the idea of buying from Hudson Valley makers, but I'm curious how much of the everyday stuff is affordable. A wooden brush that lasts is great, though sometimes you just need cleaning supplies and don't want to make a special trip for them. I'd be interested to know what people actually buy there week to week. The workshops sound like a good reason to stop in, especially for someone who isn't shopping for gifts. Has anyone been to one? I'd rather hear how they went from a neighbor than guess from a store description.
I stopped into Rosie General on Broadway for a gift and ended up spending more time looking at the kitchen tools than I expected. It was nice to pick things up and see what they were like instead of guessing from a photo. The staff helped me find something useful without making it feel like a big decision. I didn't realize they baked bread and pies there too. Next time I'm in that part of Kingston, I'm going to leave a little more time to look around and grab something from the cafe.
Nina P.Same here, I went in for a card and got sidetracked by the kitchen stuff. Definitely leave time for the cafe next visit. The bread is worth the stop.
