Business Spotlight: Kingston Bread + Bar Brings Handmade Flavor to Broadway |
Handmade sourdough, bagels, pastries, and café favorites at 608 Broadway in Kingston |

A good loaf can anchor a meal—and inspire a local business. At Kingston Bread + Bar, 608 Broadway in Kingston, naturally leavened bread is the foundation of a café serving bagels, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and lunch. Its story began with a home kitchen and grew through connections right here in Kingston.
From Home Kitchen to Neighborhood Bakery
Founder Aaron Quint started Kingston Bread in 2017 as a weekly sourdough project in his Stockade district home. The business later became a Saturday pop-up at Rough Draft Bar & Books. In February 2020, Quint partnered with Rough Draft owners Amanda and Anthony Stromoski to open Kingston Bread + Bar’s first storefront. Today, the restaurant and café welcomes customers at its Broadway address.
Bread Worth Building a Meal Around
The bakery’s approach starts with time and traditional methods. According to the business, its breads are shaped and baked by hand, using natural leavening and fermentation lasting at least 24 hours. Organic flour comes from suppliers including Hudson Valley Farm Hub, Champlain Valley Milling, and Maine Grains.
The bread lineup includes classic sourdough, caraway rye, olive, and jalapeño cheddar. Bagels are hand-rolled, boiled, and baked, while the pastry selection includes rotating sweet and savory choices. For a fuller meal, the bakery highlights its egg sandwich on a milk-bread bun and the “Il Voltrono” Italian hoagie.
A Local Stop for Breakfast, Lunch, or Your Next Gathering
Whether you’re picking up a loaf for dinner or making time for lunch, Kingston Bread + Bar offers several ways to bring its baking to the table. The business also provides catering, including pastries, sandwich platters, and beverage service for gatherings and events.

The 24-hour fermentation sounds great, but I wish they stayed open a little later than 3. By the time I get out of work, the Broadway shop is already closed, and Tuesday is out too. I can usually make it over on a weekend, but I'm curious whether the jalapeño cheddar loaf is available every day or if it rotates. I'd hate to make a special trip and miss it.
Paul DeckerI hear you on the 3 p.m. Closing. I’d check their daily offerings before making a special trip for the jalapeño cheddar loaf, especially on weekends when things can sell out.
I remember picking up Aaron's sourdough at Rough Draft on Saturdays. You went in for a book and came out with a loaf for dinner. It's nice to see how that little pop-up grew into the Broadway cafe. I still stop in for the caraway rye when I'm nearby. If you haven't tried it, slice it thick and toast it the next morning. Makes a pretty good breakfast without much effort.
