Brunch at The Cornell: A Waterfront Feast With a Kingston Story |
An expansive buffet, Rondout Creek views, and a connection to Kingston’s working waterfront turn a late breakfast into a reason to linger. |

The hardest decision at brunch should be sweet or savory. At The Cornell Restaurant + Bar, the buffet gives you a way around that problem: start with breakfast, leave room for lunch, and give yourself enough time to enjoy the waterfront.
Set along Kingston’s Rondout Creek, The Cornell pairs its brunch offering with marina views and a name rooted in the neighborhood’s maritime past. For locals planning a catch-up with friends—or visitors looking for a meal that connects them to Kingston—the setting adds another reason to make the trip downtown. Best Kingston NY Restaurants
A Buffet That Crosses the Breakfast–Lunch Divide
The published brunch menu goes well beyond a tray of scrambled eggs. Waffle and pancake, omelet, and carving stations anchor a spread that moves from familiar breakfast favorites into heartier lunch territory.
Brioche French toast and eggs Benedict sit alongside bacon, sausage, and breakfast potatoes. There’s also a bagel-and-lox station with capers, red onions, and flavored cream cheeses, plus pastries and yogurt parfaits.
For diners leaning toward lunch, the choices include fried chicken, truffle macaroni and cheese, cider-brined pork roast, and honey-mustard ham. Fruit, greens, and small sweets round out the selection. The advertised price is $29.95 per person, with half-price admission for children under 10; unlimited mimosas are listed separately at $25. That range makes the buffet particularly useful for a table of people arriving with different appetites. One person can build a traditional breakfast while another heads toward the carving station. Nobody has to persuade the whole group to order the same kind of meal.
The Name Comes With a Local Connection
The Cornell’s identity draws on the Cornell Steamboat Company and the generations of waterfront workers whose lives helped shape the Rondout.
The restaurant’s own history describes tugboats hauling materials such as coal, stone, and lumber through the Hudson Valley’s busy commercial waterways. It also recognizes local families, including the Dwyers and Feeneys, whose stories are tied to that maritime community. Top Kingston Legacy
It’s a fitting connection for a restaurant beside the creek. While today’s visit might revolve around French toast and conversation, the name points back to the waterfront’s role as a place of work, transportation, and opportunity.
For Kingston readers, that gives a familiar neighborhood another layer. For out-of-town guests, it offers a starting point for understanding why the Rondout matters.
Give the Waterfront Some of Your Morning
The Cornell advertises waterfront dining, marina views, and outdoor seating. Those surroundings help make brunch feel like an outing rather than a meal squeezed between errands. Outdoor seating, of course, is worth asking about when booking, especially as the weather cools. Best Kingston NY Restaurants
A good approach is to leave the rest of the morning loosely planned. Meet friends, bring visiting relatives, or make brunch the centerpiece of a downtown visit. With a buffet, there’s little reason to rush straight from the first plate to the check.
One Detail to Confirm Before You Go
The brunch page advertises service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and refers generally to weekends. However, the contact page lists a 10 a.m. Sunday opening and an 11:30 a.m. opening Monday through Saturday. Because those pages don’t clearly establish identical brunch availability on both weekend days, call to confirm your intended date and serving time. Reservations are available through the restaurant’s website. Cornell Kingston
Make a Morning of It
The Cornell’s appeal is easy to understand: a broad brunch selection gives a group flexibility, while the Rondout setting gives everyone a reason to stay at the table.
For your next gathering, make the reservation, confirm the buffet schedule, and leave a little breathing room afterward. A Kingston waterfront morning deserves more than a hurried breakfast.

The marina view is nice, but I'd want to know for sure whether the buffet runs on Saturdays before making plans with a group. The brunch page says 10, while the regular hours say 11:30. That's a big difference if you've got kids ready to eat. At nearly $30 a person, I'd also be curious how often they refill the carving station toward the end of service. Has anyone gone closer to 2?
My sister always wants breakfast, and I usually want lunch by the time we meet up. The omelet station and the pork roast would make that an easy call for both of us. I like sitting down by the Rondout after a meal, too. We usually take a walk along the creek before heading home. I'll check the brunch hours first, since Saturday sounds a little unclear.
Linda M.That creek walk is the best part after a big brunch. I'd check Saturday too, the hours in the article don't quite match up.
