At the same time, the controversial Pike Plan canopies in the Stockade District came down, the Wilbur neighborhood is pursuing historic district status, and a Midtown building just won a statewide preservation award. Here's what's happening and why it matters for property owners, residents, and anyone who cares about Kingston's character. Read More... |

Skip the Main Drag and Explore Kingston's Hidden Rondout Backstreets
Most visitors stick to the well-known stretch of Broadway or the obvious Rondout waterfront shops, but Kingston's real character lives one block inland from the creek. Walk the residential streets directly behind the waterfront — particularly Abeel and Pine — and you'll find a mix of 19th-century worker cottages, tucked-away studios, and small ceramic and print artists who often leave work displayed on porches or stoops with honor-system pricing.
If you're there on a weekday morning, locals tend to be far more chatty than on weekends when tourist traffic picks up. Ask anyone you see about the "back alley gallery" spots — it's not an official thing, but Kingston residents know exactly what you mean, and you'll likely get a personal tour of something not listed anywhere online. |

What happens when artists collaborate without seeing each other's work? A Kingston, New York gallery is about to find out. Exquisite Corpse Redux, on view August 14–17 at 68 Prince Street Gallery, revives the beloved Surrealist parlor game — where each contributor works blind, passing along a hidden creation for the next person to continue.
Originally embraced by artists like André Breton, Man Ray, and Joan Miró in 1920s Paris, the format is expanded here to include drawings, sculptures, and poems. The results promise beautifully strange, mismatched creations.
Works will be sold through a silent auction, with all proceeds supporting People's Place, a Kingston nonprofit serving local residents since 1972. The opening party is Saturday, August 15 at 5pm. |
