October in Kingston brings a rich tapestry of community celebrations that honor the city's multicultural heritage and historical significance. Here are three verified events that capture the spirit of the season.

Ulster County Italian American Festival: October 11

The 15th annual Ulster County Italian American Festival returns to the Kingston Waterfront on Columbus Day weekend, Sunday, October 11, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. This beloved free festival transforms T.R. Gallo Park and the Rondout Landing into a vibrant celebration of Italian culture, food, and music.

Visitors can enjoy authentic Italian cuisine from dozens of food vendors, live music on two stages featuring performers like The Jenna Esposito Band and world-renowned accordionist Cory Pesaturo, a spaghetti-eating contest, cooking demonstrations, and children's activities. Free shuttle buses run from Kingston Point, Kingston Plaza, and the Cornell Street municipal lot.

18th Century Autumnfest: October 3

Step back in time at Senate House State Historic Site on Saturday, October 3, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM for the 18th Century Autumnfest. This free family-friendly event showcases colonial-era autumn activities and demonstrations that bring Revolutionary-era Kingston to life.

Visitors can watch blacksmithing, meat smoking, candle dipping, and apple pressing demonstrations. Live performances include juggling, fire spitting, and unicycling, while crafts and guided tours are available for all ages. The Senate House and museum feature two brand-new exhibits exploring Kingston's role in the American Revolution. Admission to outdoor activities is free; Senate House tours are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and free for children 12 and under.

Harambee Kingston Historic Celebration: October 24

Harambee Kingston NY, Inc. hosts a special evening celebrating an extraordinary milestone in African American history on Saturday, October 24, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at The Venue Uptown. The event commemorates the National Historic Landmark designation of the Pine Street African Burial Ground (PSABG), a significant achievement in the preservation and recognition of Kingston's African American heritage.

The celebration features a presentation highlighting the achievements and historic journey of the burial ground, a meet-and-greet with community members, donors, and sponsors, a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres (with vegetarian options), and a cash bar. The event costs $50 per person, and RSVP is required by October 9. The Pine Street African Burial Ground is located at 157 Pine Street in Kingston.

The Harambee event sounds important but 50 dollars a person is a lot for folks on a tight budget. Wish there was a lower tier option so more community members could actually attend something that celebrates their own history.

Tom BradwellThat's a fair point. Though I'd guess a chunk of that $50 goes toward keeping the burial ground preservation work funded. Still, a sliding scale or a community ticket option would make a real difference for people who want to be there but just can't swing it.

We go to the Italian festival every single year. The spaghetti eating contest alone is worth the trip down to the waterfront. Glad to see Cory Pesaturo is back, that guy is unreal on the accordion.
