Whether you're shopping in Uptown Kingston, dining along the Rondout waterfront, or visiting Midtown, knowing where to park can save you time, money, and frustration. Kingston offers metered street parking, paid municipal lots, and free parking in designated areas.

Here's what you need to know before parking in downtown Kingston.

How Much Does Parking Cost?

According to the City of Kingston's published 2026 parking rates:

  • Street parking meters: $1 per hour.

  • Paid municipal parking lots: $0.75 per hour.

  • Monthly municipal parking permits: $30.

  • Annual municipal parking permits: $150.

Regular parking enforcement hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Metered parking is generally free outside these hours and on Sundays, unless otherwise posted.

Where to Park in Uptown Kingston

Uptown Kingston's Stockade District is home to restaurants, shops, galleries, and the popular Kingston Farmers Market.

The city operates three paid municipal parking lots along North Front Street, offering convenient access to the Uptown business district.

Metered street parking is also available along Wall Street, North Front Street, and surrounding streets.

Visitors looking for free parking may find unmetered spaces on nearby side streets. However, always check posted signs for time limits, residential restrictions, and other parking regulations.

Parking in the Rondout Waterfront District

The Rondout is a popular destination for waterfront dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Visitors can use the city's paid municipal parking lot on Dock Street or look for metered street parking along East Strand and West Strand.

Some nearby streets may offer free parking, but availability and restrictions vary by location.

During waterfront festivals and special events, temporary street closures and parking restrictions may apply.

Parking in Midtown Kingston

Midtown visitors can find paid municipal parking at the Cornell Street and Prince Street lots.

Street parking is also available throughout the Broadway corridor and surrounding neighborhoods.

Check posted signs before parking, particularly near loading zones, business entrances, and restricted areas.

How to Pay for Parking

Kingston introduced the Passport Parking app in April 2026, replacing its previous Flowbird mobile payment system.

Drivers can pay through the Passport Parking app or text PARK to 30844 to receive a payment link.

Municipal parking pay stations also accept coins and credit cards. Remember to enter your license plate information correctly when paying.

How to Avoid Parking Tickets

Kingston's official 2026 parking fines include:

Parking violation

Expired parking meter

Fine $25

Overtime parking

Fine $25

Blocking a driveway

Fine $50

Parking in a restricted zone

Fine $50

Obstructing a fire hydrant

Fine $100

Late-payment penalties may increase the amount owed.

To avoid tickets, always check posted restrictions, pay for the correct parking zone, and return before your permitted parking time expires.

If you receive a parking ticket, visit the city's official parking website for payment and appeal information.

Plan Ahead and Enjoy Kingston

Parking in Kingston doesn't have to be complicated. Municipal lots provide convenient access to popular downtown destinations, while metered and unmetered street parking offer additional options.

Before leaving your vehicle, check the parking signs, confirm your payment, and watch for temporary restrictions during special events or snow emergencies.

I don't think parking is FREE in the Rondout Strand section of Kingston. Broadway has meters all the way down and by the water there are meters there as well. Where did this information come from?

Thanks for flagging this, we're looking into it and will verify the current meter status along Broadway and the waterfront stretches, as signage and enforcement in that area can change seasonally. We appreciate readers like you who know the neighborhood firsthand and will update the article if corrections are needed.

Coins only on those meters is honestly embarrassing in 2025. I got a ticket last summer because I had no quarters and assumed there was an app like every other town. Would be nice if the city updated the payment options before writing another guide about how to avoid their own fines.

Tom BrielloSame thing happened to my husband last fall. He had a card, cash, everything except quarters. They really need to catch up with literally every other municipality around here. New Paltz has had tap-to-pay meters for years at this point.

The library lot tip is so real. I've been parking there for years when I go to the galleries on First Saturday and it's almost always half empty. People walk right past it looking for a spot on Main Street. Keep it quiet though, haha.
