Kingston Mutual Aid: Neighbors Helping Neighbors, No Questions Asked |
Volunteer Network Built on Solidarity—Not Charity—Connects Kingston Residents With Resources and Support |
In Kingston, a growing network of volunteers is proving that the strongest safety net is often woven by neighbors themselves. The Kingston Mutual Aid Network connects community members who need help with those who can provide it—no paperwork, no eligibility requirements, no judgment.
The network grew out of Kingston Resilience, a coalition of dozens of organizations with deep roots in the community that came together during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic to fill gaps in the system. What started as emergency response has evolved into a permanent fixture of Kingston's community support infrastructure.
How Mutual Aid Works
Mutual aid operates on a simple principle: solidarity, not charity. Community members can express their needs or offer resources through the Kingston NY Mutual Aid Facebook page or by completing online request and support forms. A team of volunteers processes these requests and connects people with the appropriate resources or volunteers who can help.
Needs vary widely—groceries, diapers, formula, gloves, cleaning supplies, errands, deliveries, emotional support. The network recognizes that everyone has needs and everyone has something to contribute, whether it's a car for deliveries, meal prep skills, or simply a listening ear.
A Thriving Community Hub
The Kingston NY Mutual Aid Facebook page quickly evolved into a thriving community hub where needs are posted and met quickly within a culture of support. Members exchange food and essential items, share helpful resources, and start conversations about social action. A team of moderators encourages open and respectful dialogue and bridges connections between members to facilitate matches.
The network also maintains forms for errands and deliveries, and for non-perishable goods requests. Volunteers step into roles as neighbors supporting neighbors—picking up groceries, making deliveries, and checking in on community members who need a hand.
Get Involved
Whether you need support or want to offer it, Kingston Mutual Aid welcomes all community members. The network operates on the understanding that mutual aid is about "we," not "them"—we all have needs, and we all have ways we can support one another.
