3 Dog Parks in and Around Kingston, NY: Where to Let Your Pup Run Free |
From waterfront views at Kingston Point to the brand-new Forsyth Park Dog Park, here are the best off-leash spots for your four-legged friends in the Kingston area. |
Kingston and the surrounding Ulster County area offer excellent options for dog owners looking for safe, fenced spaces where their pups can run off-leash and socialize. Whether you're a local resident or visiting the Hudson Valley, these three dog parks provide well-maintained facilities and plenty of space for your canine companions to burn off energy.
1. Kingston Point Dog Park: Waterfront Views and Separate Areas
Located at 99 Delaware Avenue in Kingston, the Kingston Point Dog Park is the city's premier off-leash facility. This fully fenced park offers separate areas for large and small dogs, ensuring safe play for pups of all sizes.
The park operates daily from 7 AM to 8 PM (dawn to dusk) and is completely free to use. With its proximity to the Hudson River waterfront and Kingston Point Beach, it's a popular destination for dog owners who want to combine a beach visit with off-leash play time.
The park enforces strict rules including zero tolerance for aggressive behavior, mandatory cleanup, and no children under 12 inside the fence. These guidelines help maintain a safe environment for all visitors. For more information, contact the Kingston Parks and Recreation Department at (845) 481-7330. Website: Kingston Point Dog Park
2. Forsyth Park Dog Park: Kingston's Newest Addition
Brand new in 2025, the Forsyth Park Dog Park is Kingston's newest off-leash facility. Located at Lucas Avenue adjacent to the Forsyth Nature Center and Dietz Stadium, this fenced enclosure provides a dedicated space for dogs to play off-leash within the larger Forsyth Park complex.
The park is open daily from 7 AM to 8 PM and is free to the public. While dogs can play off-leash inside the fenced area, it's important to note that the surrounding park—including the parking lot and Nature Center entrance—remains a strictly on-leash zone. Pets are also not permitted inside the Forsyth Nature Center facility itself.
The dog park was built as part of the city's ongoing investment in pet-friendly amenities and provides another excellent option for Kingston dog owners. The park offers parking at the Lucas Avenue entrance and additional handicapped-accessible parking through the Dietz Stadium complex. Website: Forsyth Park
3. Ulster County Dog Park: A Short Drive Away
Just a 10-15 minute drive from Kingston in New Paltz, the Ulster County Dog Park at 249 Libertyville Road offers a fully fenced facility with excellent amenities. This park features separate areas for small dogs, water stations, chairs for owners, and a spacious play field.
Unlike the Kingston parks, the Ulster County Dog Park is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing maximum flexibility for dog owners with varying schedules. The park is well-maintained and offers a welcoming environment for dogs of all sizes to exercise and socialize.
For more information about the Ulster County Dog Park, contact (845) 340-7368. While it's outside Kingston city limits, it's a convenient option for Kingston residents willing to take a short drive for additional variety. Website: Ulster County Dog Park Information

More Pet-Friendly Options in Kingston
Kingston continues to expand its pet-friendly infrastructure. In addition to these off-leash dog parks, the city offers numerous leashed walking opportunities along the Hudson River waterfront, the Kingston Point Rail Trail, and in many of the city's other parks. The Kingston Parks and Recreation Department maintains a comprehensive list of all city parks and their pet policies.
Whether you're a daily visitor or an occasional user, these dog parks provide valuable community spaces where dogs can exercise, socialize, and simply be dogs. The recent addition of Forsyth Park Dog Park demonstrates Kingston's commitment to being a pet-friendly community, and the well-established Kingston Point Dog Park continues to serve as a model for off-leash facilities in the Hudson Valley. |

The Ulster County one in New Paltz being open 24 hours is actually a big deal if you work odd shifts. Drove past the Kingston Point park at 8:15 once and the gate was already locked. Good to have options.
We take our golden retriever to Kingston Point a few times a week and honestly it's one of the best parts of living here. The separate area for small dogs is a nice touch too. Glad to see Forsyth Park finally getting one, that side of town really needed it.
Donna PellegrinoSame, we're there pretty regularly with our lab mix. It's a good crowd too, most people are responsible about keeping an eye on their dogs. Curious how busy the Forsyth one gets once word spreads. Might be a nice alternative when Kingston Point is packed on weekends.
