150 Years of Bravery: Volunteer Fire Department's Milestone Celebration!

From humble beginnings to heroic rescues: A look at the legacy of a 150-year-old volunteer fire department

The Kingston Volunteer Fire Department is set to commemorate its 150th anniversary with a series of celebratory events next month.

Since its establishment in 1876, the department has been a cornerstone of the community, with dedicated volunteer firefighters providing round-the-clock emergency response services.

The anniversary festivities will feature an open house, equipment demonstrations, historical exhibits, and a community appreciation barbecue.

These events aim to honor the generations of volunteers who have served Kingston with unwavering courage and dedication.

In addition to the fire department's celebrations, Kingston will host several other community events in April.

On April 10, the city will hold its first Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Expo at the Andy Murphy Neighborhood Center.

This free event will connect homeowners and residents interested in ADUs with a variety of builders, architects, designers, and policymakers.

Approximately 25 vendors are expected to participate, offering insights into the benefits and processes of creating ADUs.

Later in the month, on April 25, the Kingston Spring Farmers Market will take place at the historic Old Dutch Church.

Attendees can explore a wide range of locally grown and produced items, including fresh produce, dairy products, meats, baked goods, and artisanal crafts.

These events reflect Kingston's vibrant community spirit and commitment to honoring its rich history while embracing future developments.

Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to participate in these celebrations, fostering a sense of unity and appreciation for the city's heritage and ongoing growth.
