Kingston Celebrates Earth Day with Community Tree Planting at Hasbrouck Park |
Residents are invited to help plant 100 trees at Hasbrouck Park on Earth Day as part of Kingstons ongoing greening initiative. |
Kingston is going green for Earth Day.
The city will host a community tree planting event on Saturday at Hasbrouck Park, inviting residents to help add 100 new trees to the Uptown neighborhood as part of Kingstons Urban Forest Initiative.
The event runs from 10 AM to 2 PM April 25, 2026, from 2–5 PM, with volunteers meeting at the park entrance on Delaware Avenue near the intersection with Albany Avenue.
What to Expect
All tools and trees will be provided by the city, including shovels, gloves, and watering equipment.
Participants will receive a free native sapling to take home and plant in their own yards.
Experienced arborists will be on hand to demonstrate proper planting techniques and answer questions about tree care.
The city is planting a variety of native species, including oak, maple, and dogwood trees, selected for their ability to thrive in the local climate.
Environmental Benefits
Trees provide numerous benefits to urban neighborhoods.
They help reduce stormwater runoff, lower summer temperatures through shade, improve air quality, and provide habitat for birds and wildlife.
Mayor Steve Noble says the Urban Forest Initiative aims to increase tree canopy coverage across Kingston by 25 percent over the next decade.
Every tree we plant makes our city healthier and more beautiful, Noble said.
Last years Earth Day event drew more than 200 volunteers who planted trees along Broadway and in several city parks.
Lunch will be provided for volunteers courtesy of local restaurants on Wall Street and John Street. |
